  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth Consider using low-sodium.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Use coconut aminos for gluten-free.
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Dice the onions and mince the garlic while the pan heats.
  3. Season the ground beef with salt and pepper.
Cooking the Beef
  1. Brown the ground beef in batches to ensure proper caramelization.
  2. Remove the beef and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté onions until translucent.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Creating the Sauce
  1. Add tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.
  2. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  3. Return the beef to the pan.
  4. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until sauce thickens.

Notes

Healthier alternatives include using 93% lean ground beef, substituting half the meat with chopped mushrooms, and adding extra vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini. Serve over cauliflower rice, whole grain pasta, or quinoa.
